Happy Birthday to me. I live in a tree. I look like the Monkees and smell like them three.

Oy, such a week I had. On the plus side I got to see "American Splendor" yesterday at the Metris Uptown Theater. If you're not a fan of underground comix in general or specifically in Pekar's work it's not going to make much sense. Or prolly hold much interest. But in that case why am I talking to you?! Beat it! Naw, I'm mostly kidding. Mostly. I watched SNL tonight so I could hear the White Stripes. I endured about two hours of crap to enjoy six minutes of music. Fair swap, cause cheap is how I feel.

It amazes me the things people choose to get worked up over. The economy is in the crapper, Bush and his thugs lied us into another Vietnam & Gary Colman may be the next Governor of California -- no problem! Two straight women (Madonna and Britney) snogging on an awards show?!! Major Problem! The-sky-is-bloody-falling kinda problem! Harlan Ellison was right The universe is comprised of two elements: Hydrogen and Stupidity. I watched "The Untouchables" last night and have come to the conclusion this must be one of the STUPIDIST movies of all time. I may have to re-think my position on David Mamet. "How did you know I had a gun?" He tapped your coat with his nightstick and heard a THUNK. It's not THAT cold in Chicago, Einstein. The "Battleship Potempkin" ripoff pissed me off, as did the STUPID ending. All in all, this is a movie to be avoided.

Freaky Friday! My holiday is over. :sigh: Of course, I don't have to back to work 'til Tuesday but that doesn't count. Today Remi and I went to a CHEAP Chinese place downtown, Bamboo Garden. I was somewhat iffy about the place but agreed to give it a shot. I'm glad I did! Not only was my cashew chicken CHEAP ($2.50) but it was delicious and full of flavors and spices and didn't seem washed out from sitting in the steam table. I'd put it on the same list as my favorite cheap Asian place, Lotus To Go Go. Everything on their menu is very tasty and their prices are very reasonable.

No State Fair today. Instead I went to lunch with my friend and Citadel Legend, Remi Fasolati. We went to local beanry Hamlins for lunch. It's an old-fashioned diner where the waitron calls you "hon" and everything is made from scratch. I'm pretty sure they wash their hands after scratching, though. Remi had the special, chicken ala king. I didn't like the sound of that so I went with my old stand-by, their wunnerful hand-made hamburger sandwich. I've never cared for chicken ala king. For one thing, it reminds me too much of Alan King, whom I've never cared for. Plus there's usually not very much chicken. It did come on a big ol' biscuit, which looked good but Remi reported as being too dry. My burger was perfect, though. And they have the best fries in town. Hand-cut from real potatos with the skin still on 'em. Fried to a golden-brown, they're crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. If the reverse is true, send them back: something is wrong. Hamlins is on Nicollet Mall & 7th St in the old NSP building. Tell 'em Pogue sent ya to receive a confused look.

What a day. I saw Viva and Jerry at the State Fair. I was going to ask for their autographs, but then I realized they're not really celebrities but just a couple of drunks with a cable access show. Still, that's more than I did. I worked the booth at Pro-Choice Resources from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm (my replacement was late, but that's okay). It's good to feel like I'm back in the fight. I'm working out there again on Labor Day. I want to do more to help the side of right and good win this battle. And the next one, etc etc. The price of liberty is constant vigilence. I've seen some great free music at the Fair this year. The Pig's Eye Jass Band did some great tunes from the teens & 20s, but I think they should get over swing already. I say hoo-ray that Minnie's in the dough-ray-mee. She's helping Uncle Sam to keep his people free. She's okay by me! Yeah they don't like swing. I don't want to what they thinkg from be-bop. Personally, I dis-agree with that but since I can't play any instruments I suppose I can't argue with the folks with the talent.

I'm on hols all week. Yay! I'm going to the State Fair tomorrow and Wednesday. The State Fair is one of my favorite things. They have more food on a stick than you can shake a stick at! If that's your idea of a good time. I think I'll just take it easy today and hant out here at Ranchero Mahone.

I went to the big football match between our Vixens and those hated Wiscosin Ice. Its not hatred as much as intense dislike. We lost 61-6, though I think we were wearing them down. I had dinner at Grumpy's bar then hoofed it back home.
